4 Ways to Organize Winter Weather Essentials

4 Ways to Organize Winter Weather Essentials

As the snow falls, and the chill of a brisk breeze surrounds you, you’re sure of one thing—winter is here.

And with it comes many essential items to survive until the colors of spring and warmer temperatures begin to emerge.

Below, we provide a few considerations as you layer up, stock and organize to meet your most basic needs during the winter months.

1. Determine Dedicated Spaces

When you know where to find the items you need, simple processes become even simpler.

Have a central location where each winter item will be stored, and communicate this with the other members of your household. Consider a label system for quick reference and to eliminate any confusion.

A universal understanding of where items are kept will ensure that items can always be found when they’re needed most.

2. Group Like Items Together

As you plan out dedicated spaces, think of your items in terms of groups that meet specific needs.

Going out for winter walk, or need to shovel the driveway? You’ll need a hat, gloves, and a scarf—maybe a shovel, too. Keep these items close together.

This will allow you to quickly grab and go, and avoid excess time spent in search of a particular item.

Remember, winter weather adds on to your travel time, and can naturally slow down daily processes. Anything you can do to make daily processes faster can be a huge help.

3. Consider Every Winter Need

Winter, as with any season, brings a unique set of challenges. In the form of cold, wind, and potentially hazardous road conditions, having the right items can make all the difference.

Consider every need, both indoors and outside of your home, during the winter months. Make a list of the items that will help you make it most successfully through the winter blast, including:

  • Shovels

  • Picks and/or Scrapers

  • Gloves or Mittens

  • Hats

  • Scarves

  • Blankets

  • Fireplace care items (if applicable)

4. Stock Up for the Storm

Winter weather can come out of nowhere, so it’s a good idea to always be prepared. Once you’ve identified your dedicated spaces, and groups of like items, be sure to always keep these items stocked up.

Lose a mitten? Replace it. Keep tabs on inventory and maintain peace of mind that when the storm hits you’ll be ready.
